A New Player in the Truss -
and Modular Home Industry
Hans Hundegger, founder of Hans Hundegger GmbH and Hundegger USA, L.C.
is well known and recognized in Europe. Just recently he won the Schweighofer
Prize, the Nobel Prize of the wood industry in Europe
(www.schweighofer-prize.org) for his achievements in the development
of automated wood processing machines. Hans Hundegger has developed
and built wood processing machinery for the past 25 years. Hans Hundegger
Maschinenbau GmbH has over 150 well trained employees in Hawangen, Germany.
Hundegger machines are used throughout Europe and the World thanks to
a successful marketing and service system.
Hundegger USA, L.C. has been marketing and installing the German manufactured
Hundegger line of fully automated wood processing machinery in North
America since 1996. However, until recently our product line catered
mainly to the needs of North American Timber Framers and Log Home Builders,
automating the process of cutting complex mortise and tenon Joinery.
This spring Hans Hundegger introduced the new HUNDEGGER SC-1, a scaled
down version of the well proven K2 Joinery Machine. With over 2000 Joinery
Machines installed world-wide and 60+ machine installations in North
America, Hundegger GmbH has established itself as the standard in heavy
timber processing. The SC-1 capitalizes on Hundeggers 25 years
of joinery automation experience and tailors Hundeggers expertise
and success to the Truss and Modular Home Industries. The increasingly
popular in-line concept of this automated saw has been a
trade mark of the Hundegger machines since 1978. The SC-1 follows this
traditional concept. The flexibility of in-line production in combination
with a user friendly sophisticated software package is answering the
automation challenges of an industry which has grown from simple two
pitch roof trusses into anything imaginable complex roof systems. The
in-line design of the SC-1 offers the necessary flexibility
and speed to provide just in time cutting, meeting the demands of todays
architecture and the wishes of the growing component industry.
At the recent BCMC (Building Components Manufacturers Conference) show
in Phoenix, Arizona, the Hundegger SC-1 amazed attendees with its speed
and accuracy. The fully operational SC-1 Hundegger displayed and demonstrated
in Phoenix made the BCMC show one of the most productive trade shows
in Hundeggers history. The SC-1 can be configured as a simple
automated end trimming saw up to a more sophisticated joinery machine,
capable of producing any angle and/or bevel cuts, drillings, mortise
and tenons, birdsmouth cuts, notchings and other simple joinery. These
additional modules offer more value-added opportunities for building
component manufacturers. The Hundegger SC-1 is capable of automatically
pre-cutting I-joist packages, including cut-outs for HVAC ducting and
plumbing, pre-cutting stud wall panels components, and many other applications
in the building industry. The SC-1 will handle a variety of material
from 2 x 4s up to 6 x 17-1/4. 2 x material can be processed
individually or stacked up to 4 pieces high.
All Hundegger equipment interfaces directly with various design software
programs, taking all the information from the designers desk directly
to the shop floor and production. Such integration enables the industry
to streamline and economize production.
